Well, I'm back and I'm as smooth as a baby's bum!
I didn't bleed this time (that's cos the girl who did it was a professional, unlike myself) and it didn't hurt at all. The salon that I'd originally booked my appointment with had no record of my booking so therefore couldn't accommodate me, even though the manager remembers my telephone conversation with him. What a pillock! That salon won't be getting any more of my custom (or my unwanted body hair *lol*) in the future! Luckily enough, I went to another salon nearby and they 'did' me straight away so 'Yay' for them.

Glad it didn't hurt Terry
Gawd I've had the most horrible day I've had to sit in the dentist waiting room while Laura had some teeth extracted. She is undergoing some orthodontic treatment in readiness for a brace and they insisted that she needed some teeth removed. To say I wasn't happy about this is an understatement! I would much rather put myself through physical pain than have to wait through that again. The thought of them doing that to her was too horrible to contemplate. I know they use anaesthesia ......... but still. I just hope it's all worth it in the long run. I almost burst into tears when I saw her with all the blood coming out of her mouth. It was as much as I could do to drive home in one piece Sorry, I know this sounds a bit melodramatic, but I've been anxious about this for some time and today it just got the better of me. I think Laura's much braver than me about this sort of thing. It was bad enough when she had to go into hospital for some operations when she was younger. I hate putting my kids through anything like this

To both you and Laura, Janie.
The worst thing that I can possibly imagine, as a parent, is knowing your child is hurt and in pain and the feeling of helplessness that goes along with that.
When my daughter was 4, at the near exact time I was arriving at her daycare to pick her up, she tripped and fell while she was walking around the washroom area with her pants around her ankles (don't ask!). As a result, her little head slammed into the edge of the porcelain toilet and put a hole that was bigger than the pad of my thumb into her forehead. She was screaming and screaming and there was just blood everywhere. I raced her in my car to the doctor's office and I had to sit back helplessly while they stiched her poor head up as she screamed and screamed on the examination table. All the while this was going on I was very calm, trying to be brave; but the moment I got her home and she was asleep in my bed, I broke down.
I don't ever want to experience that again

Awwwww - poor Laura (and poor you too). I know how you feel hun cos I was the same when AJ had to stay in hospital after he'd contracted a virus that left him permanently deaf in one ear. It was just an awful, awful time for him and for us too.
I'm sure that Laura's dental treatment will all be worth it though. Both of my boys wear braces, although Will only wears his at night now. He's having further, more complicated treatment next year. AJ is having a permanent one fitted at the end of the year providing that his 'bite' has widened enough to take it.
*smushes you both*

Thanks Terry I'm sorry to hear about AJ too That must have been incredibly worrying for you and Mike.
Laura had hearing problems when she was little too. She had incredibly bad *glue ear* which severely delayed her speech development (LOL she never stops now though) but at the time it was awful, repeated ear infections, tonsillitis etc. She ended up having to have her tonsils, adenoids out and gromits put in her ears but she has bad scarring on her ear drums because of this. One of her tonsils was so badly infected that it almost haemorrhaged when it was removed. It took me ages and ages to persuade my GP that what she needed was gromits put in her ears rather than the speech therapy she was receiving at the time. It didn't do any good cos she was basically deaf! I ended up having to change my GP because of all this. I blame them for delaying her progress at school at the time. Then she had to have another operation a year later to remove the gromits cause they wouldn't drop out by themselves. She was pretty poorly at the time because of all the infections etc and lost a lot of weight. She was a little scrap of a thing then, not that she's exactly huge now. I had to stay in hospital with her both times and it's horribly worrying at the time.
I'm pretty certain that Robbie's going to have to have a brace too when he's a bit older.
Janie xx

Gah! The baby books don't tell you about any of this do they? Mind you, if they did then they'd frighten the bejayzus out of any prospective parents!
